George Formby was an international film star and musician during the 1930s and 1940s with hit songs that included When I`m Cleaning Windows, Fanlight Fanny, Leaning On The Lamp Post among many, many others. What many people dont know is that he started life as a stable jockey begining work at the stable yard at just 10 years of age. His racing career was less then auspicious, and he retired from the track without a win. But in 1939 he stared in a film called come on George which he would play the lead role of a jockey and would get his first win on the silver screen.
