Buckskin Shire Horse - Freedoms Jolie Prize

A shire horse with a difference, not only does she sport a cream gene giving her distinctive buckskin colouring, she is just about the sweetest, friendliest and kindest love bug there is. Freedoms Jolie Prize is registered with the American Shire Horse Association and is sired by the stallion Dua He Chi`s Freedom out of the mare Jane`s Prize One who is a daughter of Forest Hills Black Hawk

A Buckskin Shire Horse? Well as it turns out many, many decades ago the AHSA allowed a breed up program due to the scarcity of Shires in the country. This allowed mares of unknown parentage that fit the breed description to apply for registration. Mares had to be bred back to registered Shire stallions and only fillies could be kept as breeders.

So hence way back when in Jolie`s dam line, there was dilute mare. The gene then hid under many generations of black and when Jolie`s mom was bred to a bay, out popped Jolie. A fully registered “A” book Shire mare... but buckskin. The breed up program was discontinued 15-20 years ago so no new color genes are ever going to get into the gene pool again.

Jolie is most certainly one of a kind! Her DNA confirms she has a dilute gene, EEAaCr. Unfortunately no red so she cannot throw palomino but she can throw buckskin, smokey black, perlino or smokey creme. And since she is being bred to Gunther her offspring will carry a red gene.

Gunther thought she was a bit weird for all the attention but Jolie was smitten.

Jolie has charmed everyone she has ever met with her sweet, `please come pet me` face and attracts attention from afar with her good looks. She moves like a warmblood with suspension and extension and can really float.

She is medium framed and not a very heavy set horse at all. She`s on the smaller side for a Shire but it`s this lightness and flexibility that should make her a superior producer of riding horses.

With her solid medium proportions, very correct straight legs, quality gaits, and easy to handle temperament, Jolie pleases in all aspects. Everyone loves Jolie, she loves everyone, there`s not much more to say. She`s here to stay. Shire Horse Stallion Tom at Equitana - Click HereShire Horse Stallion Tom at Equitana Shire Foal Liberty
