The biggest shire horse ever recorded was a gelding named Sampson (later renamed Mammoth) born in 1946 in Toddington Mills, Bedfordshire, England owned by Thomas Cleaver. Mammoth was recorded at 21.5hh (2.19 metres) and weighted around 3,360 lb (1,524 kg).
