Philip Spivey
Philip Spivey was born in Khatmandu in 1969. His parents were based in Nepal before moving to India where he developed a passion for horses.
Upon finishing school, Philip moved to Sheffield and trained with former British Team Chef d`Equipe Ronnie Massarella for two years during which time he obtained his BHSAI. Philip then worked for two years for Robert Smith where he became stable jockey to his string of showjumpers.
He then moved to Belgium to work for their leading showjumper Ludo Philippaerts. Ludo trained Philip on the European methods of working and training their horses on both the flat and over fences. It was in Belgium that Philip enjoyed his first international success, when he was runner up in the Grand Prix at the CSI -B in Mechelen.
Philip returned to England to set up his own yard to train and produce young horses for both himself and other owners. He was selected to represent Great Britain in the CSI-B in New Delhi in 1998 where he triumphantly returned with Individual Gold in the Grand Prix and Team Gold.
In 2000 Philip joined the prestigious Traxdata showjumping team, which included the international riders Peter Charles, Tim Stockdale and James Fisher.
Since then he has enjoyed numerous successes with the backing of his sponsors Thinktack Limited and Equistro. 2005 was a notable year as Philip and his string of horses won no fewer than three prestigious championships. Philip and Worlds Fair became the Walwyn Novice Champions at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, while at CSI Le Touquet, Philip and Romanov took the Overall 7 Year Old Championship. But October brought perhaps the highlight of his career to date as he triumphed on Romanov in the Horse & Hound Foxhunter Championship at the Horse of the Year Show.
Philip`s career has gone from strength to strength, culmanating in Grand Prix wins and representing his country 8 times on British Nations Cup teams including Aachen and Falsterbo super leagues.
Philip prides himself in producing his own horses through the grades and also training riders of all calibres.
