The mother of Hightower was a well bred thoroughbred mare who accidently got in foal to a Quarter horse stallion, as an unwanted foal Hightower was given free to famous horse trainer Rex Peterson, little did they know that Hightower would become such a star of the silver screen.

Hightower was very unflapable and took to training very well, and would be a big hit with stuntmen who gound him very easy to deal with. Another big fan of Hightower was Julia Roberts who would ride atop the large chestnut in the beginning scenes of RUNAWAY BRIDE, she loved him so much she even wanted to purchase him, but he was NOT FOR SALE.

Hightower continued to appear in films well into his twenties, at 21, Hightower was hired to play in PRINCESS DIARIES 2 with Anne Hathaway, but he was showing signs of arthritis and so Rex would decide it was time to retire him. He would spend many years at Rex`s Tehachapi (CA) ranch and in 2008 he passed away the 54-year-old trainer said. `Hightower had a presence. When the camera rolled, he knew it was there.`
