Ben Tursam - Event RiderTwo years after Ben was born in Houston, Texas, his family moved to Greenville, North Carolina where he resided most of his childhood. Living in a small, agricul-tural town gave Ben the opportunity to come in contact with horses at a young age. He began riding at age ten when his mother signed him up for a weeklong riding camp. Ben enjoyed the camp so much that he continued weekly riding lessons at a local stable. His riding sparked an interest in his parents and his older brother to begin riding. Soon Ben`s parents decided to move out of their neighborhood and purchase a small farm so they could own horses of their own.For six years, Ben rode many horses, mostly trail riding with his brother and parents and participating in 4- BenandEthimrsant H. Thus began Ben`s love for the sport of riding. Little did Ben know as he was racing through fields, jumping over ditches, and leaping up banks, he would make a career out of his passion for riding. At age sixteen, Ben and his family moved again, this time to Raleigh, North Carolina where he began to compete on a more regular basis. Prior to this move, Ben had eveilteci lightly at local hose trials. Once in Raleigh, Ben was again an active 4-H member and continued buying and riding horses. Ben`s insistent drive for perfection led him to develop each horse to it`s fullest potential. Ben has always had a desire to compete at the upper levels. His first real project was an ex racehorse bought right off the track. The new horse was purchased by Ben`s. parents as a four year old, Ben and Ragged Rich, (Ed) quickly moved up competitive levels, each learning from the other. |
