Carl Hester

Carl Hester was raised on the tiny Channel island of Sark. Once a year the whole island gets together for the Sark horse show. This tradition still remains and the horse show weekend has now become an annual pilgrimage for Carl Hester and his friends.

At 19 Carl Hester he decided to apply for a job with horses on the mainland. Through an advertisement in Horse and Hound Carl Hester arrived at the Fortune Centre in Hampshir It was there Carl Hester had his first opportunity to compete and it was on the Fortune Centre’s skewbald mare, Jolly Dolly, that Carl Hester won the 1985 Young Dressage Rider Championship.

His next job took him to the Gloucestershire village of Bourton on the Hill and the farm of Jannie and Christopher Taylor. I was made to ride difficult horses, Jannie’s specialty, which resulted in a broken ankle and shoulder during my brief eventing career. However Carl Hester did compete at the first Blenheim Horse Trials and won the Spillers Dressage with Jumping Championship. It was during this time that Carl Hester learnt the true basis of horsemanship, finding a way based on tact, patience, firmness and kindness when dealing with horses with behavioral problems. Making them think for themselves, rather than having their natural character and ability suppressed through harshness.

Carl Hester’s career took the most dramatic turn when Dr Bechtolsheimer approached him to join his yard as a rider. Carl Hester rode and trained with Dr Bechtolsheimer for three and a half years and in 1990 went to the World Championships on Rubelit von Unkenriff, the European Championships in 1991 and in 1992 the Barcelona Olympics on Georgioni. Carl Hester was the youngest British rider to ever compete in an Olympic Games.

On leaving Dr Bechtolsheimer Carl Hester went into a business partnership with Kate Carter at her yard at Stow on the Wold. This continued until Kate decided to move for more space for her stud activities and soon Carl Hester too had moved to buy his own yard.

Carl Hester continues to be one of the leading UK dressage riders and is a renowned dressage trainer

Can a club still hold a 120km ride that isn’t a star ride? - Endurance Riding
A club can hold a CEN ride (non CEI) 91km or longer but must apply to EnNZ for permission to do so. This is to ensure the ride does not interfere with CEI rides on the events calendar.

Engel vom Birkenhof
Quality fewspot mare as proved by her virtually unheard of foal score of 95 % with the ZfDP in Germany - with a perfect 10 for (amongst others) movement. She was also awarded a PREMIUM and Gold Award as well as winning the mares class at the first UK ECHA grading in September 2007. Angel was awarded a PREMIUM yet again at her KNN grading September 2008 with an overall score of 8 and winning `Best Mare` making her now a TRIPLE graded mare!

Massive paces, superb temperament, beautiful head and temperament and of course a guarantee of a spotted colour pattern from any of her offspring.

She breeds spotted competition horses of size and quality. She herself is 165cm, and is pure bred being 75% Knabstrupper in the 3rd generation.

A perfect combination of the two main Knabstrupper Sporthorse lines in the second generation, with Apollon as maternal grandsire and Xanthos as paternal grandsire.

Foaled a quality fewspot colt by Sonny Boy (ZfDP Stallion Book 1, Bay Leopard, 157cm) he is sure to be a Knabstrupper sport horse performance prospect, not only because Sonny Boy is by the renowned Knabstrupper sport horse Thunder Boy, but also because this foal has superb paces.

Angel foaled 14th June 2008 a stunning black near leopard colt by the fantastic Oldenburg stallion Rubin Star N (Rubinstein 1) and is now scanned in foal to the stunning SHOWMAKER (Westf) for 2010.
